Ehud Danoch, the new Consul General in Los Angeles, was greeted and introduced to the community by Moshe Salem, the President of the CIC. The new Consul, very pleasant and well spoken, pointed out the importance of the Israeli community in Los Angeles and the fact that he sees each one of us as ambassadors to the state of Israel. Mr. Danoch seemed very eager and committed to lead and support the community. Mr. Salem presented the Consul with the result of the survey that was conducted by the CIC: Hundreds of people, that were surveyed at the Israeli Festival at Woodley Park, were asked for their YES or NO answer, to the following question: Should Israel Grant its Citizens, That are Residing Outside of Israel The Right To Vote? The final count was 68% felt that Israelis who live outside of Israel should have the right to vote, and 32% felt that they shouldn?t. Mr. Danoch stated that as of today, the Israeli government does not have an official position on this matter, however he felt, that the Israeli community abroad, should be given the right to vote, mainly because it will reinforce the ties between the Israeli communities outside of Israel, and the state of Israel. Vice Presidents of the CIC, Haim Linder, Arik Hezroni, and Nissim Kanizo bid a farewell to the consuls Zvi Vapni, Yariv Ovadia, and Avi Rusek, which will be returning to Israel upon the end of their term at the Israeli Consulate this summer.
